Albemarle St
July 11
Dear Sir
Will you permit me to introduce to you Mr Hering <1> the bearer of this – the Artist who is so enraptured at the sight of the specimens of Talbottype <2> in my possession that he is most desirous to learn & practise the art –
Mr Hering has exhibited in the Royal Academy for some years past
I remain dear Sir
Your very faithful servant
J Murray
Hon C Fox Talbot [sic]
Notes:
1. George Edwards Hering (1805-1879), a landscape painter who first exhibited in the Royal Academy in 1836. It is not known if he took up photography. Was he possibly related to Henry Hering (1814-1893), a London bookbinder who did practice the Talbotype?
2. More usually spelled Talbotype, another term for the Calotype.
