My dear Mr Talbot,
I think you look at the matter of my exchange rather from a one sided view, that is simply with a view the interest of Lacock, I on the other hand have naturally a strong tendency to look after my own interest: I am afraid that it will be quite impossible to find a man holding a living that I should be inclined to take who would be willing to go out to the West Indies: the Bishop’s advice to me is that I should take a town living, and I think it very probably that I shall soon get one, in fact I have heard of one or two which are likely to suit me: and the only reason the incumbents wish to change is that they want to get into the country – and therefore I do not think in any justice you could refuse to accept them. As to Mr Roach, I have desired my agent to write to him proposing that he shall stay on till the end of July, I do not wish to engage him for any fixed time as it might interfere with my exchange. Although the Bishop was so kind as to say he would be ready to grant me two years leave of absence, I should be very sorry to be a waif & stray for that time. in fact I would sooner come back & reside at Lacock at once – I hope to go down to Clifton next week.
Yours Truly
Edward P. Nicholl
