Lyme Regis Dorset July 6th 1870
My dear Mr Talbot,
I have today received a letter from Mr West Awdry conveying a proposal from you that I should renew my engagement with Mr Roach, before consenting to this I should like to know your decision as to my proposal in my last letter to you – because If you still determine not to allow me to exchange with anybody unless you can secure Mr Roach for Lacock: of course I shall be compelled to return to Lacock myself and under those circumstances should be unwilling to engage him Mr Roach any longer, as however much he has captivated the ears of the parishoners of Lacock, from enquiries I have made, he is not the sort of man I should like to leave in charge of my parish to carry out the work as I believe it ought to be carried out.
I have had another letter from the Chaplain at Naples, but I have written to say that as you have put a veto on the exchange the matter must drop.
Your affect Coz
Eward P. Nicholl
