Lyme Regis
July 13th 1870
My dear Mr Talbot,
I could not answer your letter sooner, as I have been away, down to Falmouth, & did not receive you letters till yesterday on my return.
What I meant by offering to resign Lacock altogether if the money I had laid out on the new Vicarage were made good to me was: that not only should I be released from the land debt of £1000 due to Mr Dew, but that over and above that I should receive what other monies I had expended on the house & grounds, beyond the ordinary every day expenditure. I should think the amount would be about £500ּ but I had better write to Mr West Awdry about this.
If however you should not see your way to this, would you object to my proposing to you some other exchange, providing the clergyman I propose holds know extreme views, is in every way of good character, well recommended by his Bishop, and a gentleman.
Your aff Cousin
Edward P. Nicholl
