Llandough. April 2nd 1864
My dear Mr Talbot,
I have obtained the consent of the Bishop and Archbishop to the sale of the present glebe house, and when I was last at Laycock Mr W Awdry kindly came over with me, and pointed out the site that he thought would be desirable, in which I agreed; I have proposed to him to exchange the whole glebe, which is only eight acres and scattered, for land adjoining the proposed site.
What I propose to do is first to sell the present house, and then to borrow from the Governors of Queen Anne’s bounty <sic> the sum sufficient to cover the expenses of building a new house, they will lend three years income to be paid off in Thirty equal annual instalments at 3½ percent.
I am glad to say that my brother’s children are much better though I am afraid that the boy is very delicate. I hope my Mother will soon start for Mentone; have you given up your idea of going there this spring?
Y<illeg>
Edward P. Nicholl.
P.S. I intend employing a builder who has done my church and many other works in this county, and is soon to begin a house for a gentleman at Trowbridge to cost 6 or 800 pounds –
