Michael’s Grove
2d Feby 1869
My dear Sir,
The paper in p 277 is from the 8” column of Ass b.pal, lines 84-86. As the passage was printed in October 1867, before the Cylinder was put together, I suppose I may have copied it from some detached fragment, which might have been the cause of my saying nothing of its origin. The column details an expedition to Syria, and in that passage the king leaves the city of <H?>adattá (<cuneiform>) on his road towards Damascus. The inscription is damaged in the Dozen lines preceding this curious date.
I received yesterday from the printer clean sheets from 481 to 528 of my dictionary, and sent copies addressed to you, but to late for your receiving them to-day, I fear. I hope they may reach you to-morrow.
I remain my dear Sir yours sincerely
Edwin Norris
