My dear Sir
I have sent off the sheets to your address and hope they will reach you safe. Thanks for your sympathy with my accident, which has annoyed me so much I think for my dictionary as my illness.
I have not begun my verb dictionary; I found that I could not begin it without some months preparation for printing, before I could set enough type; there were so many cases in which I could not decide when many verbs should come, that all would have to be completed before beginning the printing. Even for the general dictionary, I am often only half satisfied, and wish I could have done it all before printing any thing, but delays are dangerous, especially in a case where I was an old man before I began my task.
I have received Oppert’s book, but not Ménant’s, I thought he would have sent me a copy in exchange for my dictionaries, but he has not done it. he sent me his grammar, but I did not find it of much use.
I am sure Smith will do good work, but wish he had a better education; his grammar and literary style would have been improved
I remain my dear Sir Yours faithfully
Edwin Norris
