My dear Sir,
You were kind enough to offer to send me your copy of the “Syllabaire Assyrien” of Ménant: I should now be glad to look at it for a few days, and will take al <sic> due care of it. If you should be using it, I can wait as long as you like; I only want to copy out any new values I may find. Oppert has published his “Inscriptions de Dour Sarkayan.” It contains the sheets 22@53 “Sur les Taureaux” with the chief variants, he says, but there are many variants not entered. Also another copy of Sargon’s Barrel, Pl.36 of Rawlinson, with ten lines additional I am now using it, and I find it useful for variants, this Barrel being new to me. The Gold, Silver and Antimony Tablets follow, and finally a translation only of the “Annals,” Plates 2,5,13, and 14. I am now working at them.
I am getting better, though unable to walk without some help, I can however write pretty well, and I have in type up to page 798, but no clean sheets.
Yours faithfully
Edwin Norris
