My dear Sir,
Thanks for your notice about “Carriage paid.” I wished to pay the carriage, and ordered it to be done; I find on enquiring that at the small receiving houses they only take booking money, and the Carriage money is not taken except at the head Office, which is a long way from Brompton; I am glad that you have called my attention to this.
I hope we shall not have long to wait for your continuation of the Glossary. I speak with all sincerity when I say that I fell how much will remain to be done when I have got to the end of my Dictionary, not only because of many omissions, but because I am quite aware that pretty near a third part of my work is doubtful, but I trust that I shall have laid a fair foundation
I cannot say why Rawlinson’s part third is not published I only know it is all ready complete, and that it might be made ready for binding in a couple of days.
Considering Smith’s deficient education, his progress in Assyrian is wonderful. I never meet him without learning something from him, now and then his guesses are too bold perhaps, but that is better than timidity and may be eliminated
Yours faithfully
Edwin Norris.
