12 June, 1857.

My dear Sir,

I fear that in the bustle of our Meeting, I forgot to inform you that the Society voted Thanks to you for your version of the Inscription, and resolved to print it, with all your notes, including those you sent after the first. All the versions will be put in parallel columns, and it will afford a very curious study to the learned; I have no doubt that a comparison of the four will afford means to make a better <sic> than either one of those sent in <1>
