Royal Asiatic Society,
5, New Burlington Street,
London,

25th April 1860.

Dear Sir,

I wrote you a note on Saturday, and as I did not post it myself but sent it by a new messenger, I fear it may not have reached you. I will therefore repeat my communication. It was to the effect that the Council accepted with thanks your offer to present the Society with your translation in a printed form for the Journal. I also said I think, that our number was 1000, and I mentioned the paging at which it should begin. I should now be obliged to you if you would say when the work would probably be ready for the Society, and to what page it would extend, that we may be going on with another paper to complete the volume or part, which paper is now ready. I also asked you for a proof sheet, if practicable, before putting to press.

Afterwards I mentioned that our Council had directed me to ask you if you would be willing to be put in nomination for election as a member of the Council, which might be agreeable in case you thought of passing any part of the winter in town. To this I should be obliged if you would return a speedy reply, as in case of your declining, some other member will be written to; the Council is naturally desirous of filling up the number before they meet again, preparatory to the anniversary meeting.

Believe me Dear Sir yours faithfully

Edwin Norris.
