Ricevo in questo momento la preg.ma di Lei lettera datata da Clifton <1> li 6. 7bre V.S. non poteva farmi un regalo più gradito che questo. Ho passata [sic] una giornata veramente contento frutto delle di Lei buone nuove e di quelle della rispettabile di Lei famiglia. Io la ringrazio di vero cuore e la prego di continuarmi la sua buona grazia. Vado in questo punto da M. Gay per la di Lei commissione ed avrà con tutta speditezza il noto pacco a Londra ed in breve mentre io credo partiremo tra un giorno o due. Passerò all’Hotel de la Terasse per il libro della tanto buona per me e rispettabile di Lei Sig.ra Madre <2> e lo porterò meco. Ricevuto questo [illegible deletion] aggiunga i miei doveri ed i miei ringraziamenti per tanta bontà che ha sempre avuta per me assicurandola che le sarò eternamente obbligato. Cercarò possibilmente di indovinare il gusto (cosa non tanto facile) di Madamigella Carolina <3> nella scelta dei disegni ordinatimi e la prevenga delle mie scuse se mai non ne riuscissi come lo desidero. Miladi è tanto buona che ardisco pregarla per di Lei interazione. Se voleste avere la compiacenza di scrivere a Lord Gratem <4> qualche cosa per me prevenendolo che al più per il 21. del corrente sarò a Londra ed a sua disposizione. Mi pare troppa libertà s'io ci scrivo. Sentirò volentieri qualche cosa su questo riporto ed abbi la bontà di riscontrarmi mandando la lettera a Sackville Street <5> ch’io andarò a riceverla al mio arrivo. Most Esteemed Lord
I receive in this instant your letter dated 6th September Clifton. Your Lordship could not have given me a more welcome gift than this. I spent a truly happy day, the fruit of your good news and I ask you to continue to offer me your good grace. I am going now to Mr Gay for your errand and you will have with the greatest promptness the said package in London and in brief I believe that we shall leave in a day or two. I shall go to the Hotel de la Terasse for the book from your respected Mother who has been so good to me and I shall take it with me. Once I have received this I shall add my regards and my gratitude for such goodness as she has always had for me, assuring her that I shall be eternally obliged to her. I shall attempt if possible to guess the tastes (no mean feat) of Miss Caroline in the choice of drawings ordered and I offer my apologies in advance should I not succeed as I desire. Milady is so good that I dare to ask her for her interaction through you. If you could be so kind as to write something to Lord Gratem for me informing him that I shall be in London and at his disposition at the latest on 21st of the current. I feel it would be too great a liberty if I were to write myself. I should gladly hear something on this matter and please be so kind as to inform me by sending the letter to Sackville Street where I will receive it upon my arrival.
