Supponendolo a Penrice <1> mi prendo la libertà di scriverci per pregarla di un piacere di cui mi persuado vorrà incaricarsene. Eccolo. Al Fenton Hotel <2> dove il Sig. C. Talbot <3> è solito andare in Londra e dove vi è il maggior numero di famiglie che qui vengono per passare o sul continente, od altrove, e solo nella passata settimana si son fatte colà tre piazze di corriere per tre miei amici uno de’ quali mi asserisce che se io ho mezzo di avere una raccomandazione per il padrone dell’albergo posso essere sicuro di avere una preferenza ad ogni altro, ed impiegato di certo. Vorrei dunque che V.S. avesse tanta bontà per interessare il Sig. C. Talbot suo cugino per vedere se volesse avere la compiacenza di mandarmi per suo mezzo una commendatizia per poter con questa <strada?> introdurmi dello stesso e pregarlo per me. Starò dunque in attesa di un sì gran favore come pure se mai sapesse qualche cosa rapporto a Sig. Baring. Sperando che nel domestico che ha scelto abbia finalmente trovato chi lo sappia contentare baciandole la mano ho l’onore di essere

Supposing you to be in Penrice I take the liberty of writing to you to ask a favour which I convince myself you will accept to take on. Here it is. At the Fenton Hotel where Mr C. Talbot is in the habit of going in London and where most families stay while travelling to the continent, or elsewhere, and in the last week alone three pieces of mail arrived there from three of my friends one of which asserts that if I had the means of receiving a recommendation for the master of the hotel I could be assured that I would be treated with preference, and certainly given employment. I should therefore be grateful if Your Lordship would be so kind as to ask his cousin Mr C. Talbot to be so good as to send his messenger with a letter of recommendation that I might use in this way as an introduction and to ask him this on my behalf. I therefore await such a great favour, just as I wait to hear whether you know anything regarding Mr Baring. In the hope that you have found in the servant you have chosen someone who will fulfil your expectations, I kiss your hand and am honoured to be
