Mon frère ^<1> me communique à l'instant la lettre que vous lui avez fait l'honneur de lui écrire, en date du 25, par laquelle nous voyons que vous pensez à venir dans une semaine; j'espère bien que rien ne s'opposera à ce que vous mettiez ce projet à exécution, car il devient vraiment urgent de mettre la main à l'œuvre, ou vous vous exposez fort à être devancé par certains individus qui, à ce qu'on a dit, s'occupent en ce moment de photographie. Il s'agit donc de se hâter: c'est maintenant une course industrielle: ainsi, quels que soient vos arrangements définitifs avec nos messieurs, une prompte conclusion est nécessaire à vos intérêts: puisque s'il arrivait que d'après les lumières que vous acqueriez ici, vous n'eussiez pas lieu d'être saitisfait de l'accord que vous avez signé, et voulussiez vous rétracter, ce que je ne sais pas bien jusqu'à quel point peut se faire, vous pourriez peut-être encore faire d'autres arrangements; mais en perdant un temps précieux on perd en même temps les moyens d'actions que d'autres individus plus préssés pourraient vous enlever: ceci n'est que mon opinion particulière, ainsi que vous en jugerez; car nos messieurs sont plus que jamais ardens à la poursuite de cette affaire, du succès de laquelle ils ne doutent nullement.

29/ Il m'a été impossible de faire partir cette lettre hier. Mon frère sort d'ici et m'annonce qu'ils vont s'occuper à faire des essais photogéniques. Un fabriquant de papier vient de leur en soumettre d'une qualité particulière propre à ce qu'il croit, aux opérations. Ils vont essayer aussi des chambres noires qu'ils soumettront à votre approbation, ainsi qu'un certain modèle de frames à reproduction: M^r de Bassano ^<2> fait faire par son chimiste à la campagne, des produits chimiques. On a en vue un local place de la Madeleine que l'on espère pouvoir vous convenir. On a aussi fait encadrés quelques vues qui gagnent beaucoup ainsi. Je vous fait part de ces circonstances pour vous prouver qu'ils y mettent plus d'activité que je n'en soupçonnais. M^r de Bassano qui avait des affaires chez lui est arrivé à Paris avant hier dans l'espoir de vous y trouver: Tout ceci vous engagera peut-être à hâter votre voyage. c'est notre sincère desir à tous: car sans vous on ne peut rien en aucune façon.

My brother has this very instant passed on to me the letter which he was honoured to receive from you, dated 25^th, in which we see that you think to come here in a week: I dearly hope that nothing will prevent you from executing this plan, for it is becoming truly urgent to get to work, or you expose yourself to the risk of being devoured by certain individuals who, it is said, are currently occupying themselves with photography. You must therefore act quickly; it is now an industrial race; thus, whatever your definitive arrangements with these gentlemen may be, your interests require a prompt conclusion: since if what you learned here should lead you to be dissatisfied with the deal you have signed, making you wish to reconsider, - and I am not sure to what extent that would be possible - you could perhaps still make other arrangements; however, in wasting such precious time one also loses the means to action which other more impatient individuals could take from you: this is but my own opinion, and you shall judge it thus; for our gentlemen are more ardent than ever in their pursuit of this matter, in whose success they have no doubt.

29/ I was unable to send this letter yesterday. My brother has just this moment left and has announced to me that they are going to busy themselves with photogenic tests. A paper manufacturer has just submitted to them a particular quality of paper which he believes would be suitable to the operations. They will also try the camera obscuræ which they will submit to your approval, as well as a certain model of reproduction frames: Mr de Bassano has asked his chemist in the country to make the chemicals for him. We have our sights on premise on the place de la Madeleine which we hope will be suitable for you. We have also had a number of views framed and they gain a great deal from this. I am informing you of these circumstances in order to show you that they are being far more active than I had suspected. Mr de Bassano who had business to deal with at home arrived in Paris the day before yesterday in the hope of finding you there: All this will perhaps make you to hasten your journey. this is our sincere hope: for without you we can do nothing in any case.
