Mon cher Mr Talbot:
Je me trouve encore dans la triste nécessité de vous importuner pour réparer une des oublis de ma mémoire; si toutefois vous retournez à Londres avant de revenir ici.
Nous avons fait une jolie petite excursion in the Vale of St John vendredi dernier et là m’etant servi de mes spectacles, j’ai eu la maladresse de les oublier près de la chapelle, sur le pan d’un mur où je les ai envoyé chercher mais on ne les a pas trouvées: Peut-être Mr Newman de Regent St, se souviendrait-il du number of the last glasses qu’il avait remis à un paire de lunettes que vous avez eu la complaisance de me rapporter; dans ce cas il pourrait m’en envoyer 2 ou 3 paires à l’essai, je renverrai les autres par la poste.
J’espère que vous avez meilleur temps que nous pour votre voyage à Lacock: il pleut beacoup ce matin: cependant tout le monde est content pour la terre qui a grand besoin d’eau: du reste nous avons eu un temps très agréable depuis notre départ. J’ai un lettre de Caroline (hier) toujours à Mt Edgcumbe qu’elle n’a pas quitter <sic>, My lord s’étant trouvé encore très-malade. Il va mieux à présent, mais elle a été privée du beau bal de le Reine et du Drawing room. Ils ont été bien inquiets de sort de Capt Kay que l’on disait perdu in the Amphion: mais il est tranquillement dans le port de <Merriel?>.
Nous sommes bien anxieux d’avoir des nouvelles de Sebastopol c’est-à-dire des détails; ce doit avoir été une chaude affaire!. – quatre jours de bombardement:
J’espère que Madame Talbot n’est pas trop fatiguée de ses petite voyages: ici tout el monde va bien et confortablement.

My dear Mr Talbot:
I again find myself with the unfortunate need to bother you to put right an oversight of my memory; if, that is, you are to return to London before coming back here.
We went on a lovely little excursion in the Vale of St John last Friday and there, having made use of my spectacles, I was so clumsy as to forget them near the chapel, on a section of wall where I sent someone to find them but they were not to be found: Perhaps Mr Newman of Regent Street might recall the number of the last glasses which he had replaced in a pair of spectacles which you were so good as to bring me; should this be the case, he could send me 2 or 3 pairs to try: I will send the others by post.
I hope you have better weather than us for your journey to Lacock: it is raining a lot this morning: nevertheless everybody is pleased for the earth which was in great need of water: besides we have had most agreeable weather since your departure. I have a letter from Caroline (yesterday), still at Mt Edgcumbe which she has not left, My Lord having once again been most ill. He is better at present, but she missed out on the beautiful Queen’s ball and the Drawing room. They have been quite concerned, over the fate of Captain Kay who was said to have been lost in the Amphion: but he is safely in the port of <Merriel?>.
We are most anxious to have news from Sebastopol: – that is to say, details; it must have been quite a heated affair! – four days of bombardment:
I hope Mrs Talbot is not too tired by her little journeys: here everybody is well and comfortable.
