Monsieur

Ch. Philipon

Translation:

Dear Sir,

I have received the 200 proofs which you had had delivered to Mrs Frederick – I would therefore be very much in a position, with this number, to start this affair, but, at the end of December, everyone in Paris is exclusively occupied with New Year’s gifts, it would be a bad time. I will let this month pass and will actively attend to it in January.

The Parisian customs have the pretension of making us pay 300 francs per hundred Kilo – which would make it very dear because the proofs are stuck onto quite a heavy piece of cardboard – but I have lodged a complaint and I hope to obtain a substantial lessening of the charge.

Please accept, Sir, the respectful Greetings of your
very humble servant

Ch. Philipon
