8 New Burlington St
Tuesday Evening Aug. 8.
Dear Talbot
I have been so little in the way of hearing Cambridge news lately that I have had no confirmation of the gratifying intelligence you were so friendly as to send me some weeks since – I hope the technical objection, then in you way, has been removed to your satisfaction, and that by this success you will press on to further honors –
For the last six weeks I have been in Ireland whence I returned this morning – I think it not impossible but I may be in Cambridge for a few hours this week; in that case I shall certainly break in upon your Newtonic lucubrations and present perhaps the perfect digestion of an obscure corollary in the Sect; XI.
Francis left England a few days after I went to Ireland, I have not heard of him since – I propose to go to Paris next week or in about ten days – Is not this the time at which you thought of quitting your studies for a ramble on the Continent? – I am in doubt whether it will be most advantageous to me to return to College in October for the purpose of keeping up my connections there more closely, & pursuing the studies proper for my future profession; or to take this opportunity, before I enter orders, of seeing the Continent –
I should like very much to be acquainted with your plans; that if possible we might travel for some time together –
Malcolm sets out for a Tour, of I believe two years duration, the latter end of this month –
Remember me to all Friends, that I know, at present at Cambridge
and believe me to be
Dear Talbot
yours very sincerely
