Sir
In consequence of the notice of your first papers on viewing crystals <1> under the Microscope by polarised light which appeared in my work I have now received several enquiries from the Continent of America as to whether they have been followed out, and should like to know where I could find your other papers as it might be adviseable [sic] to refer to them or give an abstract of the whole if it meet your approba[tion]<2> in my forthcoming wor[k.]
I rem Yours vy truly
A. Pritchard
Notes:
1. WHFT, ‘On the Optical Phenomena of Certain Crystals’, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London, v. 127, part 1, 1836, pp. 25–27. WHFT’s method of placing one polarizer close to the eyepiece and another below the stage increased the contrast between the subject and the background, providing him with a better method of investigating the internal structures of crystals.
