7th May 1861
The Council have resolved to mention in the Annual Report, to be read on Saturday, the fact of your having deposited four sealed packets of translations from Assyrian Inscriptions. I send you on fly leaf the paragraph relating thereto. Will you kindly correct any thing you see needing it.
I remain, dear Sir, Faithfully yours,
J. W. Redhouse
W. H. Fox Talbot, Esqre
Our distinguished member, W. H. Fox Talbot, Esqre, has also continued his most valuable labours in preparing independent translations of inscriptions found among the Assyrian and Babylonian antiquities in the British Museum. In the course of the year he has deposited in the hands of the Council at different dates, four sealed packets of the results of his investigations. These will be opened and examined when the authorities of the British Museum are enabled to publish the cuneiform texts of the inscriptions to which they relate.
