The Miss Awdrys bring from Bath the latest telegram fro the King of Prussia <1> to his Queen. “The Emperor <2> has surrendered to the King of Prussia & the army are to be considered Prisoners of War. It is not settled where the Emperor is to be put”.

1. Wilhelm I (1797–1888), King of Prussia (1861–1888).

2. Charles Louis Napoléon Bonaparte (1808–1873), President of the Second Republic of France (1850–1852), and Emperor of the French (1852–1870). He had just been captured by the Prussians at the Battle of Sedan on 2nd September 1870.
