Sie haben recht, wenn Sie auf mich zürnen. Ich hätte Ihnen schon längst schreiben und Ihnen fur Ihre Sendung <1> meinen besten Dank aussprechen sollen. Warum ich es nicht gethan, lehrt Sie die beifolgende Kreuzbandsendung, durch welche ich [Ihnen?] meinen Dank auch thatsächlich [illegible deletion] und „äusserlich hund thun wollte. Der Abzug liess aber von Tag zu Tag auf sich warten; so kann ich Ihnen denselben erst jetzt seenden. Nehmen Sie ihn wohlwollend auf! –
Ihre Bemerkungen habe ich mit dem höchsten Interesse gelesen und bin ich Ihnen namentlich auch für die freundliche und wohlwollende Art, mit welcher Sie auf meine Aufstellungen Rücksicht genommen haben, von Herzen verbunden. Über Ihren „Commentary” <2> gedenke ich mich demnächst wohl einmal auch öffentlich auszusprechen. Ich glaube, an etlichen Stellen haben Sie allerdings das Richtigere gesehen als ichx). Ich bemerke noch, dass auch meine Zweifel, ob kâtur in den Hymnen: du (thou) bedeuten könne und ob idissi-sh = er allein sei, hinfällig geworden sind. Die akkadischen Texte lassen über das Erstere keinen Zweifel und idissisu = idir wird durch Assurb. G. Smith <3> 260, 8 an die Hand gegeben. – Über Nin 1) = Herr; 2) = Herrin habe auch ich mich einmal früher ausgesprochen s. <4> Assyrisch-babylon. Keilinschriften (ZDMG. xxvi) <5> S. <6> 148. 149.
Schliesslich noch meinen besten Dank für die Übersendung von part II der Transactions. Denken Sie sich nur, auf der hiesigen Bibliothek ist noch nicht einmal p. I angekommen, trotz wiederholter Anfrage bei den Buchhandlungen! Ohne Ihre Güte hätte ich also von allen drierenen Publicationen noch gar keine Kenntniss! –
Nun noch die Mittheilung, dass mich die Grossherzoglich und Herzogl. <7> Sächsischen Regierungen zum Orientalistencongress in London <8> deputirt haben, und da Sie ja wohl doch unzweifelhaft ebenfalls alsdann in London sein und am Congress Theil nehmen werden, so werde ich alsdann das Vergnügen haben Sie auch persönlich kennen zu lernen.

You are right if you are annoyed with me. I should have written long ago and expressed my best thanks for your last communication. Why I did not will be apparent from the parcel which follows, through which I in fact intended to express my thanks publicly. However the printing was day upon day delayed; for this reason I can only send you a copy now. Receive it favourably! –
I have read your remarks with the greatest interest and I am sincerely obliged in particular for the friendly and generous manner in which you took my tables into account. About your “Commentary” I plan to express myself publicly as well some time in the future. I believe in several passages you did indeed see more correctly than I did.x) I also remark, that my doubts whether in the Hymns kâtur could mean thou and whether idissi-sh = he alone, have been dispelled. The Akkadian texts leave no doubt about the former and that idissisu = idir is obvious from Assurb. G. Smith 260,8. About [Niu?] 10 = Master; 2) = Mistress I have previously published see Assyrisch-babylon. Keilinschriften (ZDMG. xxvi) p. 148. 149.
Finally my best thanks for sending part II of the Transactions. Just think, our library here has not even received part I yet, despite repeated requests at the bookshop! So without your kindness I would have no knowledge of all these publications.
Now let me add that I have been deputized by the Grand-Ducal and Ducal governments of Saxony to attend the Orientalist Congress in London. And as you are, I suppose, undoubtedly going to be in London that time as well, and will participate in the Congress I will, at that time, have the pleasure of making your acquaintance personally as well.
