ROYAL OBSERVATORY
EDINBURGH
March 4 1867
My dear Sir,
If you still care about watching the eclipse of Wednesday morning from here though we can offer you hardly any other facilitation than a knowledge of the time by meridian observations, – then I shall be happy to see you here on that day any time between 8h 15m & 11h, A.M.
If that day prove wet & you do not come, but would care to see what there is in the Observatory then I would beg to propose – half past twelve oclock <sic> on Saturday, – for then there will be something to be seen connected with time-signals which will not depend on the weather.
I shall not expect any answer if you can come on either of these occasions.
If you come in a cab, you should insist on its driving you up, behind the High School to the top of the hill, & close to the Observatory. The entry is on the South side.
& I remain
Yours very truly
C. Piazzi Smyth
H. Fox Talbot Esq <FRS?>
