1. Abbotsbury, Dorset: home of William Thomas Horner Fox Strangways.

2. Probably Sir Charles Lemon (1784–1868), politician & scientist; WHFT’s uncle. His letter is not located.

3. God willing. JFS would have become familiar with this Muslim expression while in Turkey or Egypt 1824–1826/7.
