Melbury <1>
3 Jany 1858

My dear Henry

My last letter I hope will have prepared you for the sad news of the death of your poor Uncle Harry <2> – who after a short but painful illness, expired at last tranquilly – & after a considerable cessation of pain appeared to quit this world in perfect peace

I have so much to do & to write that I am sure you will excuse my saying more at present as no words suffice to express our feelings – Theresa <3> & Caroline <4> were both here a great comfort to their father.

Believe me yr affte
W F S
