My dear Henry

I have been wondering what you will think of my letter which you would get this morning. – I fear you will be vexed by it & put out

I recollect that I was to remind you to date some cheques in London for the monies that will be wanted here. – I think it would be a good plan to date several, & leave the sums to be filled up afterwards – when you come – I have been thinking that if you have not got the dimensions of my fireplace, it would do to speak to the tradesman yourself now, & send him the dimensions when we have an opportunity. –

I wrote to Mrs Havergal <1> in the way you wished – saying that I should want her soon after the middle of January & to remain with me till the end of the first or second week in March leaving the precise days of coming & going for a future letter. – And she is to write to me in case she wants me to fix my latest day – How miserably wet it is today! – but yesterday we enjoyed 2 walks very pleasant weather. –

Your affectionate

Constance.

Notes:

1. She was engaged as midwife for the birth of Charles Henry Talbot (1842–1916), antiquary & WHFT’s only son.
