Cowes <1>
Wednesday Sept 7
Dearest Henry
I received both your letters <2> from Clifton <3> but I did not attempt to answer them, feeling quite sure that you would have left Clifton before their arrival. It is lucky you did not come for me last Monday, for in consequence of your putting it off I have been enabled to visit the Undercliff – We had two splendid days for the purpose, Monday & yesterday. – and I am now quite rejoiced at having seen all that part of the Island, for it is exceedingly curious indeed, & very beautiful. –
I am glad you told me your wishes that I should not meet you at the Steamer for I had thought of doing so, in my great anxiety not to lose a moment in meeting you – but I quite agree with you that it is better not. – You will therefore find me waiting for you at the Cottage. – I have secured a bed for you at one of the vacant houses adjoining mine, so you must not leave your carpet bag at the Marine Hotel or any such place but bring it with you – I hope this lovely weather will last over our journey home – Is it not charming after so much rain. – I will not write more –
ever your affectionate
Constance.–
Ela <4> kisses you.–Henry Fox Talbot Esqre
