Llandaff.
Wednesday.

My dear Father,

I have received two letters from you and one from Ela. <1> I am coming to Lacock tomorrow but do not want to be met as I am not quite certain what train I am coming by. I think I shall practice designing at Lacock. Edward Nicholl <2> is right in his opinion so far viz that what he mentions is the practise of many architects, but no man can design properly who does not understand the construction. There is frequently no clerk of the works. I do not expect a rainy day tomorrow but it is wonderful that this weather should last.

Your affect son
Charles.
