Merthyr Mawr, <1>
Bridgend.
Tuesday. Dec 26th

My dear Father,

I had not noticed the account of the Capture of Hervey Strutt and Coore <2> till you mentioned it. It must be a great boon for them. I leave this tomorrow. My address will be Cockington Court Torquay

I [illegible deletion] got an invitation from Mr Estcourt <3> today to go to his house for a ball which is to take place at Tetbury on the 4th January. I do not know whether I shall go or not. The storms of wind have done much damage in these parts. Many trees have been blown down here, and at Margam some acres are said to have been bared. Today was rainy. Generally we have had good weather. Some days very fine. They have a good many pheasants here in the fir woods which have been planted in the sand hills. I hope Mamie <4> is pretty well. Give my love to every body. And please tell Mamma <5> that I duly delivered her remembrances and Mrs John Nicholl <6> sent reciprocal ones. Christiana <7> is not here but with her mother <8> in London. Mrs Nicholl senr talked about coming down here, but has not yet done so. The accounts of Mrs Dillwyn <9> are better.

Your affect son
Charles

Harry Dillwyn has got a second class in the Law Tripos.
