Friday Decr 7th

My dear Father,

I thought it would prove quite an easy matter to get an exeat from Saturday to Monday, but Mr Mathison <1> said it was necessary for him to know that you approved of my going.

I told him that I had mentioned my intention to you, and that you had answered the letter without making any objection, so he consented to let me go, on the condition that I would [illegible deletion] write and ask you, to write a letter to him stating that you approved of my going. I shall be able to go down finally on Thursday next but I think I shall wait for the next day – as the Architectural Society have a meeting on Thursday.

There are boat races going on every day now –

Your affect son
Charles –
