My dear Father,
I received Rawlinson’s Herodotus <1> safely. Mr Headlam <2> writes to say that he will give 13£ for the pony, and that he has written for it to be sent over from Cumberland. Is the cheque for the pony to be sent to you or to me? Mr H wants to know, if he takes the saddle and bridle what price I mean to put on them. I think that it would be best to have them valued by a saddler, and offer them at the price he would fix. There is a good saddler at Keswick, but Mr H has written for them to be sent over to Whorlton. There is also a very good saddler at Richmond in Yorkshire of whom I originally bought them, and they might be valued there.
Your affect son
Charles.
