I have received the box of minerals. The ore is evidently rich in iron, apparently a peroxide. I will let you know in a few days what they think of it. In the mean time I asked Mr Bruce about the Seend ore, & he told me that at Dowlais they had taken 300 tons of it on trial, and that they did not like it. The fact is that different qualities of ores are required for different qualities of iron, for instance if the object is ‘railway bar’ or ‘boilerplate’, or ‘tinplate’, or ‘castings’, or ‘chain cable’ &c &c the ores made use of are, or ought to be of very different descriptions.
