Railway Hotel Crewe. –
June 25th
My dear Papa
Your will be glad to hear that we are progressing hitherto very favourably in our journey – having left Edinbro’ yesterday at 4 oclock in the afternoon we only managed to reach Carlisle – this morning we left by a quiet train at 11ּ30 and are just arrived at Crewe at 6 oclock so we have all the evening to rest ourselves in <ill. del.> tomorrow we hope to reach London but have not yet settled what hotel we go to there
I think we shall go down to Dover if possible on Friday as the Saturday trains on that line are sure to be crowded but of course we shall write again before then –
We have had splendid weather today and the air is everywhere perfumed with the hay – and in many places they are carrying it.
The country in the neighbourhood of Shap was looking its best today and the railway banks in the North are still covered with magnificent bushes of broom in flower –
here they are enlarging & beautifying the Station and have also improved the hotel which I hope we shall find more comfortable than when we were here last.
Monie bears the travelling wonderfully well and with the exception of being a little tired does not appear the worse for it – She is now I believe writing to Tilly
Goodbye dear Papa
I suppose we shall see you soon and that we shall meet at Dover
yr affecte daughter Ela
Goodwin is to leave Edinbro’ on Wednesday evening and will be at Lacock on Thursday about 2 oclock Wilkins has been written to & has got his orders.
Mamma also wishes me to say that on receipt of your letter she empowered Mushet to let 13 Gt Stuart for 60 <illeg> as he could not get a higher offer.
