My dear Papa,
We are very glad to hear that you will come to us for Christmas; but I wish you could arrange to be here rather sooner – so as to be with us at least two or three days before Christmas – You know we have to go all the way to Dumfries to church, and have to set out early, and do not get back till the afternoon so whether you go with us or not – it will be a broken up day – & we would rather have had you here comfortably for a day or two before that – I wonder whether you have heard form San Remo since I have I had a letter on Saturday which gave a favourable report of Rosamond’s progress, but I should like to hear that she was quite well again – I have not heard from Charles yet – The children send their love to Grandpapa, & I am your most affecte daughter
Matilda C. Gilchrist Clark.
It is freezing hard here today, with a slight sprinkling of snow on the ground – very cold – but I hope it will change again soon –
