My dear Papa,
I received your letter yesterday, & in case you want an immediate answer about the quinces, I write to say that we should like to have some very much they will travel very well in a basket or hamper I should also like to try the early flowering Raspberry, and I think there is perhaps more chance of a new man taking care of it, as he will wish at first doubtless to do what he is told, whatever he may do afterwards! I am sure Mary Maxwell will also like to try it very much If you have any other hardy plants to recommend please give me their names but tender plants are not much use here.
I enclose Willies picture which has been printed at last Tell me whether you are pleased with it The others are so unsatisfactory that they must be tried again
Your most affecte daughter
Tilly
Mr Maxwell of [Murches?] is standing for the Stewartry again but he is opposed by a violent Radical there is also a contest for the Dumfries Burgh & the County of Dumfriesshire.
