Marazion

Octr 30

My dear Henry

You will be surprized at receiving a letter from me dated at Marazion! We came here last week to pay Mrs Cole a visit and I cannot visit “the Mount“ without recalling to mind the pleasant time we spent there together so many years ago! How I wish you were here now to enjoy a scramble on the rocks, that is always a pleasure to me and I do not find myself grown helpless, tho’ I must say the stairs up to the top of the Tower seem much steeper & narrower than they used to be! which looks rather suspicious does it not? –

We have very windy weather but it is delightful (when it does not rain) the Sea is such a lovely green & the waves dash against the rocks in such a fine manner it is delightful to look at them & Mamma enjoys sitting at the window or on her little stool in the Garden of Mrs Cole’s Cottage breathing the fresh Sea air & admiring the view<.> Kate Nicholl Jane’s youngest Girl who belongs to us in her Mother’s Absence is quite charmed with Cornwall & anticipates an excursion to the Lands End with great pleasure, & so do I, the first really fine day. – We shall remain here about ten days longer & then go to see Sir Charles Lemon at Carclew, for a few days. –

Many thanks for the seed you sent me of the Myosotis if it equals the English one I shall be quite contented. – Tropæolum Lobbi does not seem to be an annual in a hot house I like it very well but my favorites are tricolorum & pentaphyllum as to tuberosum I do not like it at all I saw it out at Abbotsbury some years ago & thought it a straggling looking flower the stem is too long & the colour & size of the flowers not half as good as the old sort but being more hardy it may be valuable on that account. –

Have you heard that John Nicholl has come home on leave, from the Cape we have not seen him yet but I hear he looks very well; he will soon go out to Rome where Mr Nicholl & all the party were to proceed the beginning of November they have secured a very pleasant residence in an airy situation ^in the via Sistino near Trinità di Monti I think they told us. – Ld Mt E. has engaged a Palazzo close by which gives great pleasure to all the party. –

Pray kind love to all I do hope Dear Ela does not suffer any pain or feel anything of her Rheumatic attacks this year

I am your affcte

coz. Mary
