Lanelay Tuesday
My dear Henry
Your account of Ld Mt Edgecumbe has grieved us very much indeed & from my heart I feel for poor Caroline! I do not know where they are? is it on the Continent or at Mt Edgecumbe they are? What trials she has had, with the accidents her Childn have met with too! I hope Charles will get quite strong again in time, care is very necessary when any injury happens to the head I know it seems strange boys should not be allowed to choose for themselves whether they will join in the game or not! –
Isabella is still at Clifton she thinks Dr Symmonds has been of service to Susan & now she has got Charles with her he was laid up with a bad cough &c at Woolwich & Mr Franklen went up to see him & brought him down on sick leave he has out grown his strength too & they are over worked at Woolwich certainly as well as not overfed, they talk of returning home shortly for fear of the weather’s being too cold, at Clifton, or at all events, for the journey but I suppose they will send Charles back to Woolwich before they move & so it is uncertain. –
We are going on Friday to Margam for a time & I believe Louisa Gallwey will meet us there she has been at Dunraven for the last six weeks. I should think but Caroline Bonneval did not come down this year she is in London still I believe.
Mamma is middling & has been very busy in her Garden preparing for the winter & Spring. We have wet weather now however so much cannot e done. Your account is dazzling to one’s mind’s Eye & I imagine those plants I do not know to be splendid as well as the others which I have seen at Penllergaer or else where.
I have just heard that Jane has reached Naples they were obliged to make 5 days from Albano and she was sadly tired the last day owing to the badness of the road but she bore the journey better than anticipated. –
With our kind love to all I remain ever your affate
coz Mary
Pray write again.
