My dear Henry
Tho’ we have very little communication with one another nowadays I feel sure you are interested in every thing that concerns poor Jane and will wish to hear how we find her & hers now we have joined them at Tunbridge Wells.
Jane bore the journey better than had been expected but she has not been out in the Carriage since she arrived here for I am sorry to say she has a return of her ague and some days is unable to leave her room & hardly her bed excepting to have it made in the evening, she is wonderfully composed in general. All her ten Children have been here & there are eight with her still besides Mamma & me for the present. One of the Girls is drinking the waters for she has not been well for some time & is grown very thin Lucy however is wonderfully well and very active now but obliged to be careful & not expose herself to cold & damp – I hope you & yours are all well. I must send this to Lacock because I do not know your direction & it will only cost you a penny if it is forwarded!
Mamma sends her love to you she is far from well – having long been too anxious for her health to keep good & now she is suffering from indigestion too. We left Isabella & her sick Daughter at Clifton where they returned this Summer for her to be under Dr Symonds’s care again & I hope he may be able to do her good, it is sad indeed to see a young person so helpless & in such a suffering state at times, (they say it is not a spinal affection <sic>) she is very patient & cheerful always on her sofa but employing herself when she can in various ways –
Hoping to hear from you soon a good account of all your belongings believe me
Ever your affate coz
Mary
