My dear Henry
At Pearson’s where I was shopping the other day & paying my private purchases, they mentioned that something trifling was on their books to your account. Would I wish to pay it? – I said if they gave me a memorandum I would enclose it to you – & ask your instructions – So here it is. – I can settle it without any trouble if you like to send back the bill. I will also pay the Penitentiary for hemming and marking your 2 dozen Pocket-handkerchiefs of which the bill was handed in to me today.
I forget whether Gee told me of the 1st dozen being finished and taken home to Lacock – If so, the dozen that came today will make the number complete. I will send them by Carrier tomorrow. Please tell Gee.
Your affectionate
Constance
What a fearful Shipwreck that is of the Atlantic! It is something reduced in horror today, as far as the diminished number of lost, goes to soften the horror of such a fearful catastrophe! – The Captain does not appear quite in my opinion to have shown sufficient care of his ship, while so near the dangerous coast: – but one must not pre-judge him – He behaved as well as possible after the ship struck.
