Sir/

I have to hand your favor of this day’s date, and in reply I beg to say that I should have been off ere now, had it not been for my friends Holmes & Zohrab of 2 Fen Court – Fenchurch St, intimating to me that they could get me an engagement in England to proceed to Sydney or Melbourn [sic] – I offered to engage for three years at £250– for the first £300– for the second and £350 for the third year, and my passage out tho’ I should not much mind if I were to pay for it myself – the Gentleman who I expect will engage me is now in the Country, and I am almost confident, that when he returns I shall succeed in making the above engagement – in that case I shall require a better outfit and between your good self my cousin and Brother I hope to be able to manage it –

With many thanks for your promised gift Believe me Yours truly
Tobias S. Telfer
