Mon cher Monsieur

Mr H. F. Talbot
London.

My dear Sir

I have the honour of confirming my letter of the 3rd instant which contained the invoice for the sale of several sheets of photogenic paper & calotype drawings. Since this document appeared to me sufficient to prove, if need be, that your patent is active, in legal terms, you will not need to return to France for this purpose.

I am enclosing the copy of the description of your said patent, in accordance with the request you made me in your letter of the 1st instant, but not that of the act of transfer to Mr de Bassano, given that it has not yet been legalised. As soon as Mr de Bassano has complied, I will have it registered with the administration & will then send it to you at once.

Please accept, Sir, my continued and sincere regards.
for H. Truffaut

Notes:

1. See Doc. No: 04683.

2. These items were sold to Mr Chaulin, papermaker to the King, by Amélina Petit De Billier, ‘Mamie’, ‘Amandier’ (1798–1876), governess and later close friend of the Talbot family [See Amélina's journal ], according to her letter to WHFT, Doc. No: 04866. Truffaut’s unusual use of the word ‘photogenes’ for ‘photogenic’ continues.
