New Castle on Tyne

May third 1836

Dear Talbot

I thank you for taking the trouble of sending me the answer to the application you were so good as to make to Lord John Russel <1> in my behalf – & I again thank you for the kindness & promptness with which you made that application –

I quite remain in the same mind as to accepting that appointment or any other situation that might offer no matter how laborious or inadequately paid that would add something to my present income – but my hopes of the police Magistracy for this town have almost vanished, since the Council have postponed the consideration of the question subject sine die, <2> on account of a lack of funds – but this does not lessen make me less

Your sincerely obliged

Hedley Vicars.

Henry Fox Talbot Esq
Sackville Street.

Notes:

1. Misspelling for Lord John Russell (1792–1878), politician.

2. Indefinitely.
