Dummer House July 16 -

Dear Sir,

I regret that I should have omitted to state that our holidays that begin on the 25th, Monday; I have been waiting to see if anything was fixed about Montgomeries's going down to Glasgow,<1> and it is now arranged that a servant shall accompany him down on the 26th, by express train, reaching Kendal Junction at 5h..5m - at least such I believe is settled, but there is a little uncertainty as to whether - I can procure a Tutor also, which might alter the plan - Now I propose that Charles should sleep in London at Lord Eglinton's house, (which is empty) on Monday night, & Ld Es servant would drop him at Kendal - I would myself go up to London on the Monday, & arrange with the Servant about his journey &c and have also written to Lady Eglinton, to ask her to give Charles a bed - Unless I therefore hear form you, that you prefer any other place I will carry out this - and also write should there be any change.

I have but just time to answer by return of post, so hope you will excuse haste

And am, dear Sir, Yours truly
James A. Williams

1. This was probably Archibald (b. 1841) or George (b. 1848) Montgomerie, sons of Archibald William Montgomerie (1812-1861) 13th Lord Eglinton. Eglinton Castle is in Ayrshire, near the rail line from Glasgow.
