My dear Sir

Some time since you applied in favour of a young man for a clerkship in the Customs. I am happy to say that an opportunity has at length occurred for appointing him to a clerkship in the Customs in London, & Lord Grey <1> desires me assure you how much pleasure it gives him to find himself thus enabled to meet your wishes.

Will you be good enough to desire the young man to call upon Mr Arbuthnot my secretary here, from whom he will receive the necessary directions

Yours very truly

C Wood

W. H. Fox Talbot Esqr MP

Notes:

1. Charles Grey, 2nd Earl Grey (1764–1845), statesman.
