Monsieur Talbot n’ayant pas voulu m’assurer un rendez-vous chez lui, je suis obligé d’accepter la proposition qu’il veut bien me faire. Je serai chez moi demain, vendredi, depuis une heure jusqu’à six & j’aurai l’honneur de remettre dans les mains de Monsieur Talbot le petit herbier qu’il a eu la bonté de m’envoyer hier au soir. Cinq des plantes qu’il contient m’ont paru intéressantes, & d’après l’autorisation que m’en a donnée Monsieur Talbot, je les ai prises pour ma collection. J’ai examiné les autres fort rapidement et ai mis à contribution ma foible [sic] mémoire pour nommer celles qui ne l’étoient pas ou qui l’étoient imparfaitement. Je soumettrai ces décisions au jugement exercé de Monsieur Talbot à qui j’ai l’honneur d’offrir l’expression de ma haute considération.

Translation:
Since Mr Talbot did not wish to grant me a meeting at his place, I am obliged to accept the proposition he is willing to make me. I will be at home tomorrow, Friday, from one o’clock until six & I will have the honour of returning to Mr Talbot the little herbarium <1> that he was so kind as to send me yesterday evening. Five of the plants it contains appeared particularly interesting to me, & in accordance with the authorisation granted to me by Mr Talbot, I took them for my collection. I examined the others very rapidly and called upon my poor memory to come up with the names of those plants which lacked them completely or in part. I will submit these decisions to the keen judgement of Mr Talbot, to whom I have the honour of expressing my high esteem.
