Je reçois votre lettre <1> du 4me de ce mois. Je crois que je viendrai à Paris vers la fin de Mars-
Je ne signerai rien sans avoir consulté des avocats Français (good lawyers) Ici à Londres j'ai pu me procurer "les six codes", mais la nature d'une société en commandite y est trop peu détaillée pour m'inspirer une grande confiance dans ce genre d'arrangement. Enfin, je viendrai à Paris et car cela n'engage à rien, et si tout va bien, je conclurai l'arrangement. Si au contraire je trouve des obstacles imprévus, je ferai une petite tournée en Normandie et je reviendrai à Londres.
D'après ce que vous me dites, je compte voir M. le Marquis de Bassano <2> ici à Londres sous peu de jours - Je ne lui donnerai pas la peine de venir à Lacock assurément ce serait occuper son temps inutilement, et d'ailleurs j'ai bien de choses à faire à Londres. je l'attendrai donc ici. Est-ce que votre frère l'accompagne? C'est ce qu'il me semble resulter d'une phrase de sa lettre.
M. le Marquis ne repond pas à toutes mes questions, il s'en faut beaucoup: cependant il parait que l'on s'entend maintenant jusqu'à un certain point.

Dear Mademoiselle,
I have just received your letter of the 4th of this month. I think I will come to Paris towards the end of March.
I will sign nothing without having consulted French lawyers (good lawyers). Here in London I have managed to obtain a copy of the "six codes", but the nature of a limited partnership is described in too little detail for me to have any great confidence in this type of arrangement. In any case, I shall come to Paris since that does not commit me to anything, and if all goes well, I shall sign the agreement. If, on the contrary, I should encounter any unforeseen obstacles, I shall make a brief tour of Normandy and shall return to London.
According to what you have told me, I should see the Marquis de Bassano here in London in but a few days' time. I will not make him come to Lacock, that would most certainly not be a useful way of taking up his time, and besides I have many things to do in London. I will therefore await him here. Is your brother accompanying him? This is what I understand from a line in his letter.
The Marquis has not replied to all of my questions, far from: nevertheless, it seems that we are now in agreement up to a certain point.
