Frankfurt a/M 15th May 1845

Mr. W. H. F. Talbot
Lacock Abby [sic] Wilts,

Sir,

I have read with great interest of your Photographic Productions since their origin in the year 1839. I had also an opportunity of admiring their different progressions at the English Embassy here, according to the latest corrections and improvements – as far as I know, as published by your Patent of 1st June 1843.

Being about making Photographic views I take the liberty to request you to be kind enough to acquaint me to that purpose with the name of that Stationary or Paper manufactory, where I might get the proper materials, or to cause one that you know, to send me, as a sample, some good papers of the value of abt. 12 shillings.

Should there be any publications of yours of a later period as the above mentioned I would thank you to send me such works, or articles in Journals &c. as as are out or will come out, in charging the amount forward, by Batavia steamer to Rotterdam and thence by the Netherland Steam Company.

I am, Sir, with much esteem your very obedt. servt.,
(signed) F. C. Vogel

Notes:

1. Vogel's name presents some confusioin. In The Official Descriptive and Illustrated Catalogue of the Great Exhibition (1851), v. 3, entry 739 his entry under Austria is erroneously 'Vogel, Carl Friedrich, Milan. Photographs'. This is the only Vogel entry for a photographer and must be the present writer. In Doc. No: 06185 he signed 'Fritz Vogel'; in Doc. No: 06406 'Fr: Vogel'; and Doc. No: 06452, 'F. Vogel'.
