The Fox Talbot Museum
Located at the entry gate to the Abbey, the Museum commemorates
the life and work of William Henry Fox. There is a standing exhibit
of Talbot’s accomplishments in many fields and rotating special
exhibitions. The largest collection of Talbot’s correspondence
is deposited here, along with a good collection of his photographs and
experiments.

Lacock Abbey and Lacock Village
Talbot’s ancestral home in Wiltshire was given by the
family to The National Trust. Both the village and the Abbey are
well preserved and yield a very good sense of the life and work
of Talbot.
National Museums of Scotland
(formerly the Royal Scottish Museum) Chambers Street, Edinburgh.
Miss Matilda Talbot, the inventor's granddaughter, was born
and grew up in Scotland before moving to Lacock Abbey. She recalled
that much of her grandfather's subsequent work in photography
was accomplished whilst living in Scotland. In 1936, she donated
a number of pieces of his equipment, plus photographic examples,
which are now held in the History of Science Section. |

National Media Museum
Located in Bradford, West Yorkshire, the National Media Museum, formerly the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television, is an outpost of
the Science Museum in London. In the 1930s, Miss Matilda Talbot, the
inventor’s granddaughter, donated nearly 6500 of Talbot’s
photographs to the Science Museum. These are now deposited in Bradford,
along with a small but important collection of his correspondence. Other
Talbot donations came from the former Kodak Museum collection and more
recently from the collection of the Royal Photographic Society, further
strengthening their holdings. There are standing and special exhibitions
and a research centre allows public access to the collections.
